    Queen to make battlefield 'first':  The Queen is visiting Culloden Battlefield and the £140m Glendoe hydro power scheme in the Highlands.  She is the first British monarch to set foot on the battlefield - the site of the Jacobite defeat of 1746.
    Queen marks decade of devolution:  The Queen has marked the 10th anniversary of Scottish devolution by visiting the Holyrood parliament.
    Holyrood stage marks decade of drama:  The Queen met children who were celebrating their 10th birthdays.
    Queen Elizabeth II meets members of the public after attending a service at Cannongate Church in Edinburgh.

Odds 'n' Ends
    Drink killing twice as many Scots:  Alcohol may have caused the death of twice as many Scots as previously thought, an NHS study has found.
    Scots 'want an independence vote':  An opinion poll commissioned by BBC Scotland has shown a clear majority (58%) of Scots want a referendum on independence next year.
    'Oldest Scot' dies at age of 108:  A woman believed to be the oldest person in Scotland has died at the age of 108.
    Sales drop for drinks firm Diageo:  Drinks giant Diageo has announced sales were down 7% in the three months to the end of March.  The company, which has its headquarters in Edinburgh, said markets around the world had weakened, with sales sharply down in Russia.  Diageo, whose brands include Guinness, Smirnoff Vodka and Johnnie Walker whisky, said the fall was also down to planned stock reductions in the US.
    Flight clocks 90-year milestone:  Look back on the 90th anniversary of the epic Scottish transatlantic airship crossing.

The Smithsonian Vietnamese American Heritage Exhibit is coming back to the Washington D.C. metro area.  The exhibit will be hosted at the Eden Center shopping plaza in Falls Church, Virginia from June 20 to August 30.

Sight Unseen presents work by the most accomplished blind photographers in the world.  It is the first major museum exhibition on a rich subject full of paradox and revelation.  This exhibition occupies the ground zero of photography.

    This week - Crescent Earth
    A Super-Efficient Particle Accelerator:  This remnant of an exploded star may be the one observed in 185 AD by Chinese astronomers.  By studying it, astronomers gained a better understanding of new details about the role of supernova remnants as the Milky Way's super-efficient particle accelerators.

Community Involvement  

VIP Dances has been bringing singles over 30 together in the Northern Virginia area since 1995 who enjoy dancing and socializing in a relaxed atmosphere.  No membership is required.

The Amadeus Concerts:  Dedicated to enhancing the enjoyment, understanding, and accessibility of fine music in Northern Virginia.  Under the direction of Artistic and Executive Director A. Scott Wood, our concert series features professional musicians performing solo, ensemble, and orchestral works.  We also present education and outreach programs designed to reach new audiences.

The YMCA in Reston is looking for host families this summer for camp counselors coming over from England and Scotland.  Please see the attached brochure for details.
